Prime Rib Cooking on the BBQ

When you are preparing your prime rib for cooking on the bbq grill you will be astonished to find that there are many unique bbq recipes that will make creating a moist and tender bbq prime rib an easy endeavor.

Here are two great marinating recipes. We also gathered general barbeque cooking instructions for prime rib.

The main thing to remember is when prime rib cooking on the bbq grill you should still use a rub and marinate the prime rib over night before grilling.

A great rub for marinating your prime rib uses:

  • 1 tablespoon of pepper,
  • 1 tablespoon of paprika,
  • 2 tablespoons of chili powder,
  • ½ teaspoon of celery salt,
  • ½ teaspoon of red pepper,
  • ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, and
  • ¼ teaspoon of dry mustard.

You should rub the entire prime rib with this rub ensuring you include all sides and ends of the prime rib. Place in the refrigerator and leave over night.

You can use your favorite bottled bbq sauce when you are prime rib cooking on the bbq grill or you may wish to create your own unique barbeque sauce such as this one.

For this recipe you will need:

  • 1 cup of ketchup,
  • ¼ cup of apple juice,
  • ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar,
  • ¼ cup of soy sauce,
  • ¾ teaspoon of garlic powder,
  • ¾ teaspoon of pepper,
  • 1/3 cup grated apple peel,
  • ¼ cup of minced onion, and
  • 2 teaspoons of grated green pepper.

To prepare the sauce for prime rib cooking on the bbq grill, in a large sauce pan mix together the ketchup, apple juice, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and pepper. Bring this mixture to a rolling boil and then stir in the apple peel, onion, and green pepper. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until mixture has thickened.

While prime rib cooking on the bbq grill baste with the barbeque sauce while grilling. You can also serve some of the bbq sauce along side your prime rib when you serve this tasty meal.
