Egg Custard Recipe
There are quite a few ways to prepare an egg custard pie and everyone says theirs is the best. Well, here are two different recipes for you to try for yourself and on your family to find out which is their favorite.
This first recipe will make 2 wonderful tasting egg custard pies. You will need:
- 8 tablespoons of sugar,
- ½ cup of margarine,
- 8 eggs,
- 4 cups of milk,
- 6 tablespoons of flour and
- 2 unbaked pie shells.
Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients and pour into the pie shells. Sprinkle with nutmeg and bake until the custard is set around 30 minutes and the crust is golden brown.
This is my favorite egg custard pie recipe. You will need:
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg,
- 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon,
- 2 egg whites,
- 2 tablespoons of melted margarine,
- 1 unbaked pie shell,
- 2 ½ tablespoons of flour,
- 4 egg yolks,
- 1 cup of milk,
- 2 egg whites,
- 2 tablespoons of sugar.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Stir together the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Beat the 4 egg yolks and the 2 egg whites together until well blended and then add to the flour mixture. Stir well.
Now, add the milk and melted butter. Pour into the pie shell and bake for around 30 minutes.
In another bowl, with a wire whisk mix together the 2 egg whites and the sugar until frothy. Spread the meringue on top of the egg custard pie and return to the oven until the meringue has browned.
