Mincemeat Pie Recipe

The secret to a great mincemeat pie is in the ingredients used to create this unique and wonderful dish for the holidays.

All you really need to know is how to prepare the mincemeat and you will enjoy creating your own large pies for the entire family or even individual pies for each person.

For the mincemeat filling you will need:

  • 1 pound of suet or lard,
  • 1 pound diced raisins,
  • 1 pound of diced sultanas or white raisins as they are sometimes called,
  • 1 pound of currants,
  • 1 pound of light brown sugar,
  • pound of a combination of lemon, lime and orange peel,
  • 4 ounces of chopped almonds,
  • 1 pound of grated apple,
  • 3 tablespoons of ground nutmeg, and
  • pint of rum.

Mix together all ingredients in a large bowl. You can now place the mincemeat into sterilized jars and save until you are ready to use it.

Consider have it all delivered right to your doorstep

To bake your mincemeat pie, you can purchase already prepared pie crusts, or small individual pastry shells. Pour enough in the shells to fill but do not overfill. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until the shell is golden brown.

Another variation to the above recipe that is a favorite to anyone that loves mincemeat is this recipe.

You will need:

  • 3 pound of unripened green tomatoes,
  • 1 cup of vinegar,
  • 3 pounds of diced green apples,
  • 4 pounds of brown sugar,
  • 2 teaspoons of ground cloves,
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg,
  • 1 cup of suet or lard,
  • 1 pound of ground beef,
  • 1 pound of raisins,
  • 1 pound of currants,
  •  a dash of salt,
  • 3 teaspoons of cinnamon,
  • cup of margarine,
  • pint of brandy.

In a large pan cook place the tomatoes and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes and then drain. Reduce heat to low and add all the remaining ingredients except for the brandy.

Simmer for around 35 minutes, remove from heat and stir in the brandy. You can use this recipe just like the one above.
