Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without the wonderful smell of baked goods and Sugar cookies are one of everyone’s favorites around America. You can serve them for dessert or for a treat or snack. Christmas cookies are also great to give as presents. Each person that receives these delicious cookies will enjoy every morsel.
You will need a variety of cookie cutters like Santa Claus, a Christmas tree, a bell, an angel or any other holiday cookie cutters.
With these recipes you can either sprinkle colored sugar on the cookies prior to baking or you can wait until they are cool and decorate with icing. Either way, your family will absolutely love these holiday sugar cookies.
This first recipe is for refrigerator holiday sugar cookies and will make 12 dozen cookies, enough to give away some to the mailman.
You will need:
- 1 cup of margarine,
- 1 cup of Crisco,
- 2 cups of sugar,
- 6 eggs,
- 7 cups of flour,
- 2 teaspoons of baking soda,
- 4 teaspoons of cream of tartar,
- 4 teaspoons of vanilla and either colored sugar or icing.
Mix together in a large bowl, the margarine, Crisco, and sugar, then the vanilla. Add the eggs and stir until well blended. In another large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Add the dry ingredients to the sugar mixture.
Place in the refrigerator for around 2 hours or until the dough is completely chilled. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out your cookie dough and cut into the various holiday shapes. Place your cut out cookies on an un-greased cookie sheet and then sprinkle if desired with colored sugar. Bake for approximately 8 minutes.
This recipe for holiday sugar cookies does not need to be refrigerated so it can be prepared somewhat faster.
You will need:
- ½ cup of margarine,
- 1 cup of sugar,
- 1 tablespoon of milk,
- ½ teaspoon of vanilla,
- 2 eggs,
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder,
- a dash of salt,
- 2 cups of flour and
- colored sugar or icing.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix together the sugar and margarine, add the eggs, stir well, and then add the flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Stir until well blended. Roll dough onto a lightly floured surface and cut with your favorite cookie cutters. Bake on a greased cookie sheet for around 10 minutes.
You can either sprinkle with colored sugar before baking or use icing after the cookies have cooled.
