Duck Breast Recipe

Since ducks can be located all over North America it’s no surprise that different regions have their ways of cooking duck breast recipes and duck in general.

Each has their own unique flavors and touches. From a traditional roast, to a duck filled with fruits and covered in orange sauce, and to a duck in a spicy southern gumbo.

This just goes to show you that the duck isn’t really a unique bird if you take these cooking methods into play.

No matter what area you’re from I’m sure you’ll take delight in the flavor the duck brings to any meal. Since the breasts are usually the meatiest part of the bird they are most often used alone in any part of the U.S. The meat can be used just like a chicken or turkey, maybe you’d like to try some duck quesadillas now.

To try for a more southern and spicier mix we’re going to duck breast recipe and baste them up into a traditional southern main dish.

First of course you’ll need your duck, size is your preference since we’ll only be using the breast for this.

The other things needed for this are:

  • 3 slices of bacon that have been cooked and crumbled,
  • 1 cup chopped fresh mushrooms, 1 cup chopped white onion,
  • 1 ˝ sticks of butter,
  • flour,
  • sage,
  • pepper,
  • salt,
  • ˝ table spoons of thyme,
  • ˝ tablespoons of garlic salt.

Cut the breast into strips, just like chicken strips, and then batter them with the flour, salt, pepper, and sage.

You should use 10 parts of the flour to every part of the sage, salt, and pepper for the batter mixture.

Brown the strips in a skillet with 1 stick of the butter as your oil then set aside. Place the mushrooms and onion into the skillet and sauté. Once they are done place the bacon, duck breasts, and the rest of the butter, thyme, and garlic salt into the skillet. Simmer the mixture for 30 minutes stirring frequently.

After this it’s ready to serve with any of your regular side dishes.

Now you can see just how easily a duck breast recipe can go from an oriental main dish to the main course of a giant southern get together. There are really no limits to the cooking of duck, since its taste is so mild it pretty much goes with anything. So no matter where you’re from there is a recipe for your specific area.
