Duck Confit Recipe

So you’ve always wished to travel the world, see everything there is to see. Sadly like most that dream will have to be put on hold for a while.

Don’t fret though there is a way to travel the world without even leaving your city. Just go to the kitchen and cook up something from another country!

Maybe a nice French meal like a duck confit recipe, this way you can both relax at home and get a small taste of the country.

Duck confit  is the method of using duck breasts or legs and cooking them in the duck’s fat. This gives you a moist and robust piece of meat. Think of it as frying a piece of chicken, except this way you’ll actually be using the duck’s fat, so you get a more direct duck flavor.

To make a duck confit recipe you’ll need:

  • 4 duck legs and breasts,
  • 1 oz of rock salt,
  • 2 tablespoons crushed peppercorn,
  • 6 crushed garlic cloves,
  • 8 sprigs of thyme,
  • 4 bay leaves, and
  • 5 cups of melted duck fat.

Place all of the ingredients besides the fat and duck into a bowl, mix thoroughly.

Take duck meat and place in bowl, covering each piece with the seasoning.

Cover and place in the refrigerator for 24 hours, shake the bowl a couple times throughout this 24 hour period to recoat the duck meat. When you are ready to cook bring a large pan of the fat until it’s simmering.

Place the duck meat into the pan and stir thoroughly. Let the meat cook for 1 ½ to 2 hours, the meat should be very tender and juicy. Take the meat out of the fat and serve hot with any side dishes.

A great foreign recipe such as this not only will make your taste buds explode but also transport you to another culture. You may not be in France but you can always eat like you are.

With the duck confit recipe the meat will be full of flavor, since the fat is cooking the meat. With a recipe like this you’ll know why French cuisine is world renown and is in a level of it’s own in the cooking world.
