It is like a vegetable Lego activity for the kids. It is even saying it. This is a wonderful activity for the holiday season as well
- 1 large jicama, cut into strips
- 1 cup grape tomatoes, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
- 1 green bell pepper, cut into strips
- 1 yellow bell pepper, cut into strips
- 1 orange bell pepper, cut into strips
- 1 cup pretzel sticks
- 2 low fat mozzarella string cheese sticks
- 6 baby carrots, diced
- ½ cup cilantro
- 1 cup romaine lettuce, cut up
- 2 cups store bought vegetable dip
This recipe is fun for the kids to make and they can eat it.
Have the vegetable dip ready. This serves as an adhesive for your vegetable house to stick together. If your kids are old enough to help, you chop up the vegetables, then great. If not, you as a parent should cut up all of the vegetables for them.
The romaine lettuce can be torn apart using your hands to avoid bruising it. Now it is time to build a house. Take your jicama sticks and build a square. Make sure you use the vegetable dip to stick the vegetables together. Now use the green, red, orange, and yellow bell pepper sticks to create windows, doors, and even people for your house.
The mozzarella string cheese sticks can resemble curtains for your windows. Let your imaginations run wild. Take the pretzel sticks and use them for a walkway leading to the front door of your house. Now every home needs grass and flowers. Use the chopped up lettuce for grass and lay it next to your house made of jicama.
Use the green bell pepper sticks as stems for flavors and the diced tomatoes or carrots as the flowers. The cilantro can serve as leaves for your flowers.
Once complete, it is time to eat. Enjoy!
