Cooking Prime Rib
Cooking prime rib to perfection is no secret! The main thing to remember is not to over cook any steak. When meat is taken away from the heat it naturally cooks somewhat and the internal temperature can rise another 10 degrees from what it was when you removed it from the heat source.
When cooking prime rib you should always use a rub or paste. A rub is a mixture of spices that you rub all over the entire prime rib before cooking. This includes all types of cooking methods. Another kitchen gadget that you really need to own when cooking prime rib is a quality meat thermometer. This way you will be able to tell the exact internal temperature of your prime rib and will not run the risk of over cooking the meat and creating a dry, tough main course. On average, for rare beef the internal temperature should be around 130 degrees Fahrenheit, for medium rare around 140 degrees Fahrenheit, medium around 150 degrees Fahrenheit and for well done between 160 and 170 degrees Fahrenheit. Three Main Cooking Methods
There are three main cooking methods for cooking prime rib that will have everyone enjoying your prime rib for any occasion. The first method is the slow cooking prime rib. With this method you should pre-heat your oven to 200 to 225 degrees Fahrenheit or 100 to 110 degrees Celsius. The prime rib will cook at a rate of 23 to 24 minutes per pound.
The next method is the regular cooking prime rib. With this method you use a medium heat by pre-heating your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit or 170 degrees Celsius and cook for 17 to 20 minutes per pound. The last method is searing for cooking prime rib. You begin by pre-heating your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit or 230 degrees Celsius. Cook your prime rib for around 30 minutes and then turn your oven temperature down to 325 degrees Fahrenheit or 170 Celsius and continue cooking for 14 minutes per pound or until the internal temperature is your desired doneness.
The best recipe for searing cooking prime rib is to pre-heat your oven as above and then rub the ends of the prime rib with butter and place in a roasting pan. Turn after 15 minutes at turn the temperature down as stated above. Baste the prime rib every 30 minutes with the drippings from the pan. Remove your roast when you have achieved your desired doneness. Let the prime rib sit for around 30 minutes to let the juices blend before carving.
