Cooking Roast Prime Rib

Are you intimidated by cooking roast prime rib? Do you only eat it when you go out? You may be surprised at how easy cooking roast prime rib is. Get out your cooking apron, heat up the oven and call up your friends for a fabulous meal that is easy to prepare.

The first step in cooking roast prime rib, of course, is buying a good piece of meat. Look for beef that is marked USDA prime. The best tasting prime rib is “marbled” -- that is, it has streaks of fat running through the red meat. The marbling makes the beef tastier and more tender. Choose a roast that is big enough to serve all your guests. A 10 pound roast will serve about 12 to 15 people.

Take the meat out of the fridge to let it warm up to room temperature before cooking roast prime rib. This can take one or two hours, so in the meantime you can prepare the rest of the meal.

The meat can be marinated for extra flavor and increased tenderness. Marinades can be made from a mixture of oil and vinegar with added spices and herbs. You can marinate the meat for a few minutes or for several hours before cooking roast prime red.

When your meat is ready, preheat the oven to 500°. Place the roast in a shallow roasting pan and cover it with foil to keep it from splattering your oven. Cooking roast prime rib at a high temperature sears the outside and keeps the inside meat juicy and tender.

Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of the inside of the roast. When it reaches 115° turn the oven off and leave the door closed for at least one hour. The retained heat in the oven will continue cooking roast prime rib.

After an hour, take the roast out of the oven and place it on a platter. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes before serving it. That's all there is to cooking roast prime rib!
