To give your prime rib a special taste, it can be marinated with a variety of ingredients. Marinating prime rib can make the meat juicier and enhance the flavor of the beef. Besides the commonly used ingredients for marinating prime rib, there are many exotic things you can try for a unique prime rib.

Every marinade contains an acid of some kind like vinegar or lemon juice. For this reason, when you are marinating prime rib, you must use a container made of glass, glazed ceramic or stainless steel. Don't use plastics for marinating because the acid could leach out in a plastic flavor into the marinade.

You will need a container which is large enough to hold your prime rib roast. A large stainless steel bowl is perfect. Marinating prime rib can be as long as you want -- a few minutes or several hours.

There are many kinds of marinades that can be used for marinating prime rib. Marinades can be either cooked or uncooked, with the cooked marinades being more suitable for extended soaking. Cooked marinades should be prepared in advance and allow to cool before placing the meat in them.

If you are marinating prime rib for more than one hour, the marinade and the meat should be placed in the refrigerator. Otherwise there is the danger of bacterial infection.

You should use about half a cup of marinade for each pound of meat. While marinating prime rib, be sure to stir the mixture once in awhile to distribute the flavors and ensure that all parts of the prime rib are being exposed to the marinade.
