Swiss Steak - A great Round Steak Recipe

Steak is a meat that is frequently grilled, but there are many other ways to cook a steak. In fact, to bring out the best flavor some steaks are actually better served cooked other ways such as pan-fried, baked, broiled, and braised.

 This particularly includes the round steak as well as chuck, flank, brisket, and blade steak. Below you will find a great round steak recipe.

Swiss steak

Ingredients:Swiss Steak

  • 2 cups of tomato puree
  • 2 chopped garlic cloves
  • 1 large onion roughly chopped
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • ½ a teaspoon of sage
  • ½ a teaspoon of thyme
  • ½ a teaspoon of marjoram
  • 3 tablespoons of flour
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 two-pound round steak

Directions

Begin by rinsing your round steak under cool water and patting dry. Sprinkle and rub both sides with salt, pepper, and flour.

 In a large skillet, heat over medium high heat in 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Place round steak in the pan and allow to cook for 10 minutes on each side steak and it will become golden brown.

Remove steak from pan and set aside. Then add the remaining oil along with the garlic and onions in the pan. Let cook for 3-5 minutes, add in half the herbs to the cooking onions, and mix well.

Then place steak on top of onions placing onions around and on top of the steak, as well. Sprinkle with remaining herbs and add in the two cups of tomato puree to the pan. Cover and bring to a simmer, then turn down to lowest heat setting.

Leave steak to cook for 2 hours covered. Once steak has become tender, remove from pan and place onto cutting board. Slice thinly and top with onions and garlic.

This is great served with vegetables such as steamed carrots, potatoes, or green beans. Round Steak Recipes are fun and fairly easy to prepare
