Tips and two Basic Turkey Marinades

Turkey and CranberryOne way to ensure a tender and moist turkey is to use a marinade and marinate your turkey overnight. Using some of your favorite seasonings and ingredients you can create some very unique marinades that will give your turkey a new and unique flavor that will begin to become your family tradition.

There are many different marinated turkey recipes that you will enjoy and after you learn the basic ingredients you will love trying new flavors and seasoning to create your own marinate.

The main ingredient is a type of acidy liquid such as lemon juice, pineapple juice, wine, vinegar, and orange juice. Then to this acidy liquid you add other ingredients that will help with flavoring your turkey.

Here are a couple of basic marinade recipes that are wonderful for marinating your turkey and also basting while cooking.

For the first recipe you will need:

  •  1 cup of lemon juice,
  • ¾ cup of maple syrup,
  • ½ cup of olive oil,
  • 12 cloves of chopped garlic,
  • 2 tablespoons of thyme,
  • salt and pepper to taste.

Mix together all ingredients and pour over your turkey, cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 3 hours before cooking.

This marinade recipe uses a wonderful mixture of yummy seasonings that you are sure to enjoy to flavor your turkey.

For this recipe you will need:

  • 1 cup of orange juice,
  • 1 cup of soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce,
  • 1/3 cup of honey,
  • 4 tablespoons of minced garlic,
  • ½ cup of chopped onions,
  • 2 teaspoons of ginger,
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, salt and pepper to taste.

Mix together all ingredients and pour over turkey, cover and refrigerate for at least one hour.

You can always substitute any of the ingredients above with some of your own favorites.

Instead of orange juice use pineapple juice and bits of pineapple in the marinate and inside the cavity of the turkey while roasting or grilling. This is sure to give your turkey a unique and delightful flavor.
