Southern Cornbread and Oyster Dressing
If you have ever visited the southern United States during the holiday season then you know just how popular cornbread dressing is but if you ever visit the coast along the southern border of the United States you will soon learn that adding oysters to their dressing is common. The easiest southern cornbread and oyster dressing needs these ingredients, 2 packages of jiffy cornbread mix, 1 can of cream style corn, 3 tablespoons of margarine, ˝ cup of chopped onions, ˝ cup of chopped celery, 16 ounces of chopped drained oysters, 2 eggs, 1 tablespoon of poultry seasoning, 1 teaspoon of rubbed sage, 1 can of chicken broth and salt and pepper to taste. First prepare the cornbread and mix the cream corn in the mix. Bake as usual and allow to cool. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a baking dish. In a skillet melt the margarine and sauté the onions until they become soft. In a large bowl, crumble the cornbread and add the onions. Add remaining ingredients and add just a tad of the oyster liquid to moisten the dressing and give it more flavor. Bake for 45 minutes. Most of the recipes for Southern Cornbread and Oyster Dressing are basically the same; you can add other ingredients such as hot peppers like jalapeno or even Tabasco sauce to give your recipe a more southwestern taste. You can also add other vegetables such as green pepper, yellow peppers, or even fruits or juices such as apples, or figs to give your stuffing a more unique flavor and still keep the basic ingredients. You may even enjoy adding such ingredients like walnuts or roasted pecans to your southern cornbread and oyster dressing recipe; this will give your dressing a very delectable taste like no other stuffing recipe you have ever tried. And then your family, including your mother in law will be begging for your recipe.
