Turkey with Giblet Gravy Recipe
What is a holiday turkey without giblet gravy? Traditional turkey is served on many holidays in the United States with dressing and giblet gravy, but the recipes were passed down from mother to daughter and many of these family recipes were never written down and many have lost through the years. But, there is a basis to making giblet gravy that you can begin with and then add your own ingredients to create a tradition for your family. The basic ingredients you will need to prepare giblet gravy to serve with your turkey are the drippings from the roast turkey, the turkey giblets and salt and pepper to taste. There are two simple ways to prepare a wonderful giblet gravy that your entire family will enjoy, you will have to try both to find out which you enjoy more. Prepare your turkey as usual. While the turkey is roasting, boil the giblets, this is the liver, heart and neck that was inside your turkey. Boil until all pieces are tender. Put aside. For the first giblet gravy recipe you will need 1 cup of turkey drippings from the roasting pan, 7 cups of turkey broth, ¼ cup of cornstarch and the giblets chopped into small pieces and salt and pepper. In a large skillet add the dripping and cornstarch, when the mixture thickens add the giblets, and seasoning, as the mixture begins to thicken add a little of the broth at a time each time the gravy thickens. Keep up this procedure until you have enough gravy and it is the consistency that you like. My favorite giblet gravy needs the following ingredients, 1 stick of butter, 2/3 cups of all purpose flour, the chopped giblets from the turkey, 3 tablespoons of turkey drippings, and milk. Melt the butter in a large skillet and add the turkey drippings, add the flour and stir until mixed well. The mixture will become thick. Add a small amount of milk and using a whisk stir; when the mixture becomes thick add more milk. Add the giblets just before you have the gravy at the consistency you prefer. Salt and pepper to taste. Either giblet gravy recipe you choose your family will love having giblet gravy with their turkey.
