If you are like most people you do not plan ahead for your Christmas dinner but that is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. You can start planning your Christmas dinner during the time you are planning your Thanksgiving meal by purchasing items such as sugar, flour, prepared pie crusts, chocolate chips, etc,,,,
December can be a rough month to plan your Christmas dinner because you have so many other things on your mind and many others things to do including purchasing your Christmas tree, decorating your home inside and out, buying gifts for family and friends and finding the best gifts for stocking stuffers. The last thing you need is worrying about Christmas dinner. But, if you plan well and organize your Christmas dinner will be perfect and un-stressful. Here are a few organization ideas that will help you be ready in plenty of time so you can enjoy the holiday this year. - 1. Remember to purchase any un-perishable items early even in November if at all possible.
- Prepare your list of people you wish to invite and decide if you would like Aunt Sally to bring her famous green bean casserole. If so, this would be the time to ask anyone to help with preparing your Christmas dinner.
- Plan your meal at the beginning of December. Decorate the exterior and interior of home the first week of December. This way the family can help with decorating the tree and cleaning your house before the big day.
- Get your dinnerware ready, if you used it at Thanksgiving then you will not have much to do. But, if you use special Christmas China and accessories these will need cleaned, polished, etc. before the big day.
- Also check around your home, you may need to once again need some deep cleaning especially if you also hosted Thanksgiving dinner. Some areas of the carpet may need shampooing.
- You also need to send out your invitations and also your Christmas cards. Do this at the same time so you do not have to make another trip to the post office.
- Order your ham or turkey. If you are planning on cooking your own you may wish to have a fresh one from the butcher. Or if you are having one prepared this time at a specialty shop then you should order the beginning of December.
- One week before Christmas, go over your house again. Make sure everything is clean and presentable. Get out the Christmas guests towels and any other decorations that you have forgotten. Be sure the Christmas tree is decorated and the stockings are up.
- Have any presents that you will be giving to your guests wrapped and under the tree.
- Go over your dinner menu. Do you have everything you need for all the recipes? Remember, Grandpa can not have any sugar, be sure to have sugar substitutes on hand
- Empty that coat closet and have room for guest’s coats.
- Plan seating arraignments and table servings
- The day before Christmas bake all of your cookies, pies, cakes etc
- If you are planning on having a ham and a turkey you can also prepare one the day before preferable the ham.
- Christmas morning is here! Arise before the kids and put that turkey into roast. Now, you can enjoy watching the children open their presents before you begin the rest of the meal
- Now, set the table and make room for guest’s recipes on the table.
