The last way in which to cook prime rib is done is when you pre heat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and after cooking for 30 minutes turn the temperature down to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and continue cooking for 14 minutes per pound for medium.

If your roast is frozen, you should let it completely thaw. Cooking roast prime rib is best when the roast is at room temperature just prior to cooking.

  • For 3 ribs weighing around 7 to 8.5 pounds you should start cooking at 450 degrees Fahrenheit and then turn the oven temperature down to 325 degrees Fahrenheit after 30 minutes. Your prime rib should reach 130 degrees Fahrenheit in 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours.
  • For 4 ribs weighing around 9 to 10.5 pounds you should start cooking at 450 degrees Fahrenheit and then turn the oven temperature down to 325 degrees Fahrenheit after 30 minutes. Your prime rib should reach 130 degrees Fahrenheit in 1 3/4 to 2 1/4 hours.
  • For 5 ribs weighing around 11 to 13.5 pounds you should start cooking at 450 degrees Fahrenheit and then turn the oven temperature down to 325 degrees Fahrenheit after 30 minutes. Your prime rib should reach 130 degrees Fahrenheit in 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 hours.
  • For 6 ribs weighing around 14 to 16 pounds you should start cooking at 450 degrees Fahrenheit and then turn the oven temperature down to 325 degrees Fahrenheit after 30 minutes. Your prime rib should reach 130 degrees Fahrenheit in 3 to 3 1/4 hours.
  • For 7 ribs weighing around 16 to 18.5 pounds you should start cooking at 450 degrees Fahrenheit and then turn the oven temperature down to 325 degrees Fahrenheit after 30 minutes. Your prime rib should reach 130 degrees Fahrenheit in 3 1/4 to 4 hours.
